Road trip Part 1: California

We set off this summer on a big road trip through the West to see almost all of our family.  We flew into Sacramento, rented a car, and headed up to Penryn to see Keyan's dad.  The kids love being at Grandpa's place...it is full of fun with 4 wheelers, motorcycles, tractors, lawn mowers, blackberries, and Lake Mariah.

Ben is keeping his eye on "Biscuit" with hopes of inheriting it one day!

Ben just loves all things that move and is not content until he is behind the wheel!

Elyse hiking around on Grandpa's property.

Ben on the lawnmower with Grandpa....he tried to figure out how to start it on his own, but it didn't work.  He had to patiently wait to drive it....actually, Grandpa had to patiently endure Ben's asking every minute!

This was a great tree for climbing, and Elyse blends in so nice!

It's really Keyan that is next in line for Biscuit...he loves to get that truck running every time we're in California.

We visited Coloma, where gold was first discovered in California.

The kids in the American River by Coloma.

The 4 wheeler was definitely the favorite toy!

The sign says "Penryn School.  This is where Keyan went to K-8 grade.  It hasn't changed much since he was there.

We got to see some great friends from medical school, the McInnes'.

We're keeping on our eye on these two...Sam and Morgan.

Sam was brave to go ride around in Biscuit.

A rock somewhere in northern California.

On our way out of California, we stopped and went for a short hike.  It was actually a bit nippy, can you believe it?

Ben was a great hiker this year - no complaining.   He may be getting close to being able to go with us on backpacking trips if he keeps this up!

Keyan spotted this river and just couldn't resist a few minutes of fishing.

We actually found a small patch of snow and let the kids go freeze their hands in it!
